Meet the Designer
A harmonious fusion of Arabian and Indian cultures and style; this is Selina Farooqui Fashion. It’s where the silhouettes, the colors, the decadence of Arabian fashion meets the handicraft and textiles of India…
Selina Farooqui’s journey as a fashion designer started in August 2010 in Doha, Qatar. Her work was discovered by a local luxury boutique during her 3rd year of university in Qatar and since then, she has showcased her collections in boutiques and fashion shows around Doha and the region.
The brand image of ‘Selina Farooqui’ is a collaboration between the cultures she has grown up around, the Indian and Arabian influences, with a contemporary edge. With two cultures so rich in history and handicraft, inspiration is abundant. There is a common thread that runs through them, and this is what she highlights through her designs.
Selina is inspired by the style and local trends of Middle Eastern women who embody the spirit of luxury and femininity while maintaining a strong connection to their heritage. What sets her clothes apart is her interpretation of traditional garments such as the Abaya and the Jalabiya, evolving into a kaftan, a coat, a wrap jacket, a dress…
Selina travels around India and explores the markets to handpick her fabrics, and to choose every bead and crystal sewn onto her garments. Her signature looks feature simple and voluminous silhouettes, adorned with delicate and ornate hand embroidery. It’s the contrast of easy-to-wear pieces with couture embellishments, making each Selina Farooqui design timeless, effortless and elegant.
